Local MP to discuss Gladstone Park primary school with Secretary of State

February 18, 2013 3:32 PM

Sarah Teather will next week meet with the Secretary of State for Education, Michael Gove, to discuss the future of Gladstone Park primary school.

Commenting, the local Lib Dem MP said:

"Since these proposals were announced, I have been in frequent contact with Anne Kinderlerer, the Chair of Governors, and have heard the concerns of many parents whose children attend Gladstone Park. I am particularly concerned about the short timeframe that has been given to the school for the implementation of academy status, especially given the fact that until this latest inspection the school had been classified as 'good'.

"I have arranged a meeting with Michael Gove, the Secretary of State for Education, to express my concerns and ask that the time frame is extended so that the school is able to identify a suitable sponsor itself. I will also ask the Secretary of State to use the powers available to him to order another inspection of the school to see if the concerns raised in the previous inspection have been dealt with."
